Young wizard old wizard

First a rundown of different factions of government for the supernatural. This is inspired by my favorite book series.

The fairy courts of winter and summer always at war with eachother. Summer is the deterrent to winter. Winter protects creation from outsiders

Outsiders. Beings banished to beyond the outer gates of creation. Magic slips right off them and physics don't count for much either. Their only goal is to infect creation with their kind and power and return it to the void it was before there was light.

The swordsman of the cross. 3 men each weilding a sword forged with a nail from the crucifixion in it. Their purpose is to oppose the 33 knights of black silver each swordsman is watched over by an archangel. Their mission is to redeem and confront the 33 knights of blackened silver.

The 33 knights of blackened silver are humans possessing coins of silver that house fallen angels inside and give them agency in the mortal world. Their reasons are their own they feed on misery and pain they cause and grow stronger as the angel speaks to them giving them knowledge and power.

The red black white and jade courts are vampires of one form or another. Black are Bram stokers vampires jade secretive and unknown. Red saliva addicts their prey. They drink blood and are based in Central America. White are succubus and incubus can only be born into the world. Their weakness is true love it burns them and can kill them. They feed on raw spirit energy through physical contact.

The Grey council. Little is known about them they are a collection of magical practitioners who work behind the scenes to solve world ending crisis before they get out of hand.

The white counsel. The foremost authority in magic in the world every member of the white council is a wizard. The magus. Long lived they are born with magic inside them and their magic usually manifests just before puberty. The white council is led by an offic called the merlin no not that merlin the most powerful wizard in the world.

The black council is a group of black magic practitioners who are working to open creation to the outsiders and do as they with without regard for the laws of magic.

In Chicago there is a wizard private investigator who at one time or another has caused great upheaval in each faction including one's not named here. He will be appearing from time to time is an arrogant ass who thinks he is funny and always cracks a joke. He is the warden. A position that watches over the prison of all evil things. The prison was created by merlin the founder of the white council yes That merlin. It stands rooted in four different times in the same place at the same time binding all manner of creature unfortunate enough to be trapped in its crystal alcoves.

My character is a wizard.

This is the main power structure on the book series dresden files by Jim butcher. I highly recommend you read it. Or listen to it on audible. The first book is called storm front.

I don't have any right now but this is still pretty impressive.

Magic comes from life. From what you believe and your will. It comes from emotion and emotion can fuel spells. Power. Real power has to be trained and molded through trial an error as well as practice.

A young man was confronted by an old man in a Grey cloak. He grunted out that he was a wizard and to explain the laws of magic to him

Don't kill
Don't mess with peoles minds
Don't open the outer gate.
Don't bind any being against their will
Don't practice necromancy
Don't summon demons
Don't reveal your talents to non wizards

Failure to follow these laws meant death.

The white council will be watching. The young man was barely a teen and he was apprenticed to a stubborn wizard who understood the basics he was not talented but he was knowledgeable and had been taught by a member of the senior council. The ruling body. One connected to the original merlin who founded dthe council. He even had merlin old journal from that time.

He learned fire first all wizards did it was their primary defense against the sprit world. It took him only a day to learn. Then he learned focus and control. How to gather energy and store it. How to channel it into rituals for spellcasting. All in Two weeks. He was best at gathering energy and channeling it. He was also good at working effects like evocation and enchantment.

It was at 3 months when our story begins. He was working a veil a concealment spell and he couldn't get it. And it was frustrating him as all failures do

OOc: I don't know who to pick they all are pretty good. You can go again.

"Enough of that now. times up we will work on it again. " said the crusty old man overseeing the lesson. He was a wizard and training our youn man. "We will move on to the shield spell now remember how it works?" He asks.

The boy was tired of this. He had been burning his magic on spells he wasn't good at or couldn't do and now a hard one. They stood several paces away and the man turned a fold I. His cloak revealing a bucket of rocks. Thr boy winced he knew what was coming. He only just finished making the formula for the spell.

Without warning rocks float in the air with a word "force" in another language and thre pelt at the boy. Ready for it the boy raises his hand dups his energy emotion and will into the image of the spell in his mind... "sheild in greek" and a barrier flickered between him and the rocks when they impacted.

The spell worked but it was his first time. The first rock was stopped cold the other two shatter the shield and pelt him I. The shoulder and face. "Good for a first try but not good enough again" the wizard said and four this time.

The shield came up again this time it shone bright and stopped them all cold. The spell lighting when a rock hit it. Then several more come in from behind and hit him in the back. The shield grew stopping them and the wizard was impressed.

"Aaah you made the spell adaptable. You have a gift for evocation it's a shame you can't hold an image in your mind for more than a few seconds. Lucky you have the reserves to keep pouring when your tapped too. I think you will be a fine wizard one day." He said and gave the boy a box.

Eagerly thr boy opened his present for getting the new spell right and it was a metal working set. "Now that you can use magic. It's time to teach you how to use items to focus your power and make it easier for you."

" why didn't I learn with tools?" He asks affronted making the wizard laugh.

"Simple if you learn the easy way when things get hard you can't handle it. You learn the hard way and the easy way becomes easier.

During this moment, some was watching from a crystal but they said nothing wondering about this. It could be know this young wizard was going to learn a lot but that is in time.

H.D. note Bob explains, Crystal scrying was an exceedingly rare form of tracking magic. Either ot was an item designed to do so or a spell cast inside the confines of the crystal. For such a spell to work they must have either a person's DNA to use as a sample for the spell to use hair blood nail clippings skin, knowledge of the individuals true name and location, or a strong Bing that goes beyond the physical and spiritual side of things.

Ooc: Bob is a spirit of memory thought and knowledge bound to and contained within a human skull. He's a silly pervert who thinks he smarter than everyone around him. And since most of about 5 people in the books actually interact with him he was right about 97% of the time so his arrogance. In his mind is well placed.

Bic: The first tool he created was his wizard staff. A tool could be anything you wanted most, mostly men, prefer the tried and true staff. But it can be anything. He cut it from a tree in the forest he saw only once when he first arrived. But that's another tale. He saw the tree and swore to find it again when he was found later.

The staff was cut like a true quarter staff at first making the old wizard guffaw at how ridiculous a child would look with it. So he cut it down to 4 ft his height at the time. He carved runes I to it using his magic power and will to empower the runes. Each was a different symbolic representation of the different forces magic can produce and depending on what type of magic was used would glow different colors or show different effects.

The runes were carved and the wood heavily enchanted to imbibe and expel power changing it to focus and sharpen the intended spell that ran though it. He went through 3 staves trying to make one and after several weeks he managed to finish his first whole one and test it.

It worked for a few minutes. Then shorted out and exploded the next spell the backlash seared his brain and he was knocked out from it. The damage was minimal and he woke up a few minutes later and started making the next one. A week passed before he was finished and when he tested it it worked much better and continued to work even if many of the spells were unstable and continued to get worse as the staff aged.

His staves aged fast wearing out faster than most wizards his age. And it wasn't his formula  or the types of runes. or design that was the issue. He just didn't understand it. Then he made an adjustment to the runes to compensate for immense energy putput a d the staff was perfect. At least until his base power grew and exceeded the limits of his staff.

Material has limits to how much power can be stored in it. It's partially due to the physical elements that make the object. But more to do with that the object was made for, what it did, and how it was seen by others. Magic is about belief.

Several months pass as he perfected his magic tools and foci. The magical focus like a staff or wand or what ever you choose to control your magic and help give shape to the spells. Hjs spell list was a flame spell focused through a blasting glove he made each finger would channel the same spell essentally casting more than one spell at a time primarily used for evocation kr combat magic. Several applications of wind. A whirlwind to clean. A gust to call objects to his hands. A powerful tornado he shapes with his will and a warn gentle breeze. The application of earth to open it and shape it hiw he sees fit or close it. The power of earth magnetism. Electricity in many forms including a lightening spell that gathers ambient static and is amplified by his power and guided by his will. Ice magic was hard to control but he could utilize fire magic to freeze an area by taking the heat away. He was good at thaumatergy or ritual magic. They required no effort for him. He couldn't use magic to hide very well.

As for magic tools He had a set of rings that stored force gathered from hand movement and unleashed in a single blast. His staff for every kind of magic. A blasting glove for combative magic a defense belt that focused shield magics and helped him shape the sheilds however he could imagine. He had eyeglasses that could reveal magical energies residual traces and track recorded traces. And a silver pentacle made by his magical parent the symbol of the magus. Inside was a blue crystal that held the detailed journal of his parent containing their magical research and knowledge (he has no idea yet) hjs shoes have an enchantment that he replaces daily to increase traction or root him to the spot if he is moving involuntarily. No slips or slides for him. So he thinks.

One did kept a close eye on this young one, seeing his magic has grown which was impressive. Now she was curious to what else he can do or learn during his time.

Again the crystal scrying showed itself and she was watching intently he was unusual for a magus. The wizard kind that are long lived and produce a coherent magical aura representing their power. His power seemed too much for his age and experience. His mental fortitude was unparalleled except by a special few beings.

These were called the starborn. They suffer no outside influence on their minds and no outsiders the beings form beyong the outer gates of reality can not dominate the will of a starborn and the powers of a starborn may effect outsiders more than most material in creation. She was fascinated a true starborn and one very young and talented at making tools and utilizing his talent to a variety of skills.

She knew everything about him since his training started and she had been watching him since his first spell. "Fire" if you must know. Most magus learn that first to defend themselves. The crystal she was using to channel her spell was showing details of his features and the work he did with his hands. The languages he chose were Latin or Japanese to insulate his mind from the power running through his spells.

The word contains the power behind a wall of your will and protects the mind from damage that starts with little twitches and progresses to failed muscle control. Using a language you're not really familiar with insulates the brain better.

"........" This feeling was something new but it only leaves her still watching. She said nothing keeping her distance while seeing this but tilts her head either way.

After testing his tools and putting the final enchantments on them he was exhausted. He had used more magic in this one day than most council members in 3. As she watched she was practicing her own magic and her curiosity grew.

He was getting ready to eat with his master after cleaning the whole house with his whirlwind spell. His master was a powerful greycloaked wizard and his name was Carlos. Carlos was an American in California and he reluctantly took the young wizard under his wing. Carlos remembered the infamous dresden and the way he saved a warlock from execution and took responsibility for her.

That woman was now the winter lady. The man was the winter knight and a servant of the winter fairies and an enemy. Carlos remember why he did what he did and agreed. But the man had changed and Carlos no longer recognized him. Carlos apprentice was about to sit to the dinner Carlos was cooking when there was a message delivered via a communication stone.

"Orders the fulmore have started an attack on the white council again all wardens are summoned to the frontlines. Orders from captain Lucio."

Carlos stiffend and sighed like someone overworked and finished his drink. He turned to his apprentice and told him to remain on the property until he returned and if he didn't contact the white council for instructions.

She didn't say much hearing this but looks to see him leaving. She would do just that for the time being. That or him doing his work and coming back home. For now, she focused on the task he gave her while keeping guard of the house till he returns.

And now he was alone and for a long time it seemed. He went about his life spending money for food at the store in town and walking back. It was a long walk and many times he would cheat and use kinetomancy to make him run faster. What's Kinetomancy? Well it's muscle magic. Muscle and force. The term is used for muscles but force can also be applied to it.

The long road was rarely traveled and was not well cared for as a result ruts Crack sinkholes and slides have made it very unstable. He practiced dodging these and keeping his speed up and the spell going as he did this. But sometimes he would hear traffic and stop and end the spell. Then he would walk like normal. When the traffic passed he took off again careful not to go faster than the car he saw.

One such trip he messed up and fell deep in the woods on the quietest darkest most dangerous turn. Local news often reported missing people and large animals in the woods running afoul of traveller's. But this wasn't the case. The forest was home to creatures of the other world. The neverworld. The place where most monsters live.

Some lived in our world some still Do and soem live in this wood on this mountain and on this road.

The wolf hid itself well. When the wizard stopped and fell it leapt into the fray armed ready for the kill.

The boy felt something and turned and put up a shield spell with a single word and a raised hand. A dome flickered around him and the wolf hit it before it went put and shattered. The wolf got up and leaped at the boy again with a snarl only to have the rod shoved down its throat. It's eyes went wide as the rod went off blasting the wolves head into goo.

Panting the boy examined the wolf and pointed his rod at the trees incase another wolf was waiting. Then he saw it. The wound that made this wolf stalk a human. Its foresaw was missing bitten off in a single snap maybe 3 days before. The thing was already dying so it chanced the road. Even wolves were prey in this wood. Even men.

She remains at home but wonders if he was alright during the travels. Knowing him, he will be so it's nothing too wrong to know. For now, she just focused on her tasks. Other wolves was still around the area but they were trying to keep a head out but they were snarling while looking at him.

When nothing moved he resumed his journey. She heard the wolves and felt the power he used to defend himself. She knew of the creatures and which wounded the wolf. She had been after it for a whole month.

In her search for it she discovered him and marked him with a drop of ink that she wrote with and the crystals used the ink as a focus to locate him. Some parts of the forest block the transmission but when he was clear her image would return to him and she could watch him again.

The attack happened in one of these. But the power hebused was close to her home so she could feel it. I was going on about the creature and got off track. The creature was not clever. The wolf was young and foolish. The creature was an ambush predator. Laying in wait for prey then reaching out and snaching them in jaws.

It was a wounded ghoul. But neither know that. And shew as close to tracking it down.

She keeps her eyes look around, trying to find out what is going on. Maybe this leaves her silent after a while. Hearing the howls in the distance that it leaves her just going down the path to figure out what is going on.

As she tracked the creature she soon discovered its tracks. They were fresh and it's ichorus blood was thick and dark leaving a clear trail. She gulped and readied her foci and a pair of spells to defend herself. She was brimming with power and her charged aura told her danger was close.

The young wizard was feeling something nearby a charged aura of combat. He hesitate and didn't know what to do. Then his foolishness got the better of him and he turned and ran straight towards the aura. In his way were fallen trees he had to jump and as he ran anims flee from him.

She walked slowly seeing a shallow cave and a thicker pool forming from its mouth. She didn't know how deep it was but she was in a hurry to finish this beast off so it would not harm anyone anymore. But it was a trap. The shallow cave had a blind turn where the ghoul was waiting for her to approach.

She looks around not saying a thing but in some time, she noticed a pathway that shows the other. Walking over, it leaves her seeing the other. She only sighs seeing nothing yet but keeps on walking carefully. Though, she just thought she had to find him thinking about the monsters or wolves that roam in this location. She didn't say a thing that he looks ahead seeing the cave.

She went in and as she crossed the threshold and turned she met the wall and the ghoul screamed. It lept on her scratching her as it tried to rip into her flesh and eat her. Her wand and baton were sent flying and the spell she was holding slipped from her grasp and became inert.

The ghouls scream made him run forward and he saw the scene inside "Mera!" He said and fire hosed put of the tip of his staff not his blasting rod. It sounded and looked like it was made from an aerosol can. The fore caught the ghoul and burned half its face throwing it off her.

She scrambled to get her wand and baton as he stepped between her and the ghoul. He pointed his staff at the ceiling and gathered his power "SUND" He said and the roof broke dumping rock and dirt on top of the ghouls and chasing them both out of the cave as it collapsed.

She heard the rolling rocks and saw the plume of dust as she looked back at the cave and he walked out covered in dust. His mismatched clothes looked comical and he coughed "dammit too much dust" He said and she covers her torn front.

"Th-thanks" She said and he nodded coughing and holding a hand out with one finger up. "One second" is what the gesture meant. He recovered and dusted himself off.

"You're welcome what we're you doing here?" He asks diging in his backpack. After slipped it off his back.

"I was following the creature. I thought it was the one causing trouble." She said and he offered her a shirt. She took it and a tingle passed between them. They instantly recognized the aura of magic power that passed between them identifying them as welders of power.
